Dr. Bernstein led or participated in business development efforts to raise millions of dollars to support research, medical media communications, drug safety, public relations, marketing and promotions programs for UCSF, Safeway, Sentrx and Vita Media Corporation projects and services. Dr. Bernstein, as Director of Pharmacy Council on Cholesterol, organized a coalition of a dozen of the major pharmacy organizations to create pharmacist and patient cholesterol education materials. She was very pleased to accept a check for $450,000 from Merck on behalf of the UCSF School of Pharmacy. The educational grant from Merck was used to initiate "Issues in Pharmacy Practice", the first continuing education program for pharmacists nationally broadcast on Lifetime Medical Television. The series debuted with "Ten Cholesterol Battle Strategies for the Pharmacist", a two-part video program, six and two hour CE booklet. A national newsletter was also sent to all pharmacists in the United States
